Universal Offer

At Hillcroft Primary School we understand the importance of High Quality Teaching, as stated within the SEND Code of Practice (2015):

“High quality teaching, differentiated for individual pupils, is the first step in responding to pupils who have or may have SEN.  Additional intervention and support cannot compensate for the lack of good quality teaching.” (SEND Code of Practice, 2015 p.99)
The school has maintained a commitment to high-quality teaching as part of our Universal offer.  Consistent inclusive school-wide approaches such as the application of Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction informed by Cognitive Load Theory underpins our approach to this.
We work in collaboration with all GLF Primary schools to develop our inclusive ‘Ordinarily Available Provision’ or ‘Universal Offer.’  This describes our use of teaching approaches and support strategies that we know are most likely to be effective for our diverse school community, including our pupils who are neurodiverse.  These approaches are part of our ‘universal offer’ because we know that strategies that are most likely to support children with special educational needs are also most likely to be supportive for all children.
We utilise our universal offer to remove barriers to learning and progress, ensuring that all children can access whole class teaching, developing their independence, self-esteem and preparation for adulthood.
